Welcome to my RuneScape money-making guide. Making money is one of the sole purposes of playing RuneScape and on this page, you will be guided through some of the ways of making money.

Please keep in mind that the suggestions on this page can easily become out of date due to the pace that RuneScape is developing. See the bottom right-hand corner of the page to see when this page was last updated.

Notes: When I say to sell something at a particular price, this is generally referring to selling the item at the Grand Exchange.

Good Starting Tip

There is an easy way to attain 10,000 gp straight away in RuneScape. This is through the Stronghold of Security. Players go through a serious of levels and the rewards of the first three levels are 2,000, 3,000 and 5,000 gp respectively. The Stronghold of Security is a dungeon with connecting doors. Players must answer security-related questions correctly and must set their recovery questions. The dungeon area is dangerous because there are aggressive monsters on all levels except the first level. Click here to read more about the Stronghold of Security.

Similarly, you can obtain an extra 10,000 gp from the Stronghold of Player Safety.

Special report - Collecting cowhides to make money!

Cowhide is an item dropped by cows. Cowhides are given to tanners to be turned into soft or hard leather. Cowhides are currently at a high price of about 94 gp, when sold at the Grand Exchange. It is extraordinarily simple to get cowhide because cows are only level 2 and respawn quickly. If you get a full inventory (28) of cowhide, you earn approximately 2632 gp (it used to be 3164 gp). That's an enormous sum, especially compared to how little effort it requires to collect cowhide. Good places to find cows include the cow farm on the way from Lumbridge to Varrock and the farm south of Falador. Please note that cow calves also give cowhide, but the experience you gain from killing them is much lower than from normal cows. Take advantage of collecting cowhide while you can!

Easy Money Makers

Profitability 4, Collecting bones: Bones are worth about 85 gp at the Grand Exchange. Bones are commonly come across, but people do not realize how much they're really worth. You can find the most bones in common fighting areas such as the goblins next to the Al Kharid toll gate.

Profitability 4, Collecting cowhide: Killing cows (or cow calves) and taking their cowhide is a good way to make money. You will be earning more money than many high-level miners. Cowhides sell for about 113 gp each, are a 100% drop from cows (or cow calves) and are easy to attain.

Mining Money Makers

Profitability 2, Level 1: Complete the Rune Mysteries quest. Mine rune essence by teleporting from Aubury's Rune Shop. Bank all the rune essence at the bank, which is very close to the store. Sell your essence for 20-30 gp each.

Smithing Money Makers

Profitability 3, Level 1: Mine or buy iron and coal and smith them into steel bars. Steel bars sell for about 545 gp each.

Woodcutting Money Makers

Profitability 2, Level 1: Cut down normal logs and sell them at them at 10-30 gp each.

Fishing Money Makers

Profitability 2, Level 20: Players can fish and sell trout. Trout sells for about 30 gp each.

Combat Money Makers
